1 terminal near the stack/ reading areas. The Library database consists of
all the books, back volumes of periodicals, current journals and &
dissertations.
·
Users can search the database by author, title, classification

in the Library or not, its status with reservation facility if the book is
issued out. Users can also access the new books list from OPAC.OPAC is
extremely user-friendly and enables searches to be conducted with easy and
speed. Books are processed by using AACR-II code for cataloguing and Dewey
decimal classification system for classification. The call number on the
middle in the OPAC helps to in locating the books on the shelves>Books are
arranged on the shelves in numerical order from 000-999

Circulation Section
This is the front end of library operations providing the lending services
to the library users. All the functions of this section is computerized and
the transactions in this section are based on the barcode technology. All
the Registered Library Users are provided with a Bar-coded ID Card and all
the books in the library are bar-coded. A laser scanner is used for
check-out and check-in transactions. This section is connected over the LAN
and users can access the data using their ID number from Library to know
books borrowed by them and they can reserve a book, if the status of the
book is on loan.
We could strengthen our circulation
counters with bar-code equipment for accuracy and speeding up of
operations. All the books are bar-coded. The books added from 1992 are
bar-coded in the Acquisition/Technical Sections. The preprinted
self-adhesive barcode labels are made available at the circulation desk for
pasting them in the books at return counter for the old books. During the
semester/summer holidays we shifted this work to the stack area to cover all
the other books on the racks.

sciences, chemical sciences and back volumes are arranged in the right wing
of the library. Current periodicals magazines, all the reference books are
