NSS: National Service Scheme was introduced to the student community
in 1969, basing on the recommendations of Dr. Kothari Commission. The main
objective is to utilize the enthusiasm and desire to do something, the
remarkable qualities of the Youth in National construction.
NSS involves youth mainly, which are in large number all over the country.
NSS has derived it emblem from the famous Konark Sun temple, Konark, Orissa.
The wheel of the chariot is seen below.
NSS day is celebrated on the 24th of September every year. The main aim of
NSS is personality development of the student through community service.
Qualities, duties, responsibilities and objectives of NSS volunteers are,
every NSS volunteer should know that the work done by him must get
“quantitative success with qualitative work “. The main thing which the NSS
volunteer should keep in mind is “Hurt never – Help ever”.
MOTTO of NSS:
The motto of NSS is “Not me – But you “this means that the other person is
more important than me. The three important things which will be necessary
for the success of NSS are
Coming together is beginning
Thinking together is progress.
Working together is success.
Every NSS Volunteer should possess the following characteristics:-
Persistence: without leaving any work until it is completed
Honesty
Servant hood
Teaching ability
Confidence and faith
Positive thoughts
A good NSS volunteer has to inspire and motivate others and he has to
sacrifice for others.
Objectives
The 10 objectives of NSS are
Understanding the community in which we work
Understand themselves in relation to their community.
Identify the needs and problems of the community and involve in the
problem-solving process
Develop among themselves a sense of social and civil responsibilities.
Utilize the knowledge in finding practical solution to individual and
community problems.
Develop the competence required for responsibilities.
Gain skills in mobilizing community participation.
Acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitude.
